Be Prepared When The Business Takes Off Big Time

There are all sorts of topics that can need business advisors – it can be a bit of a minefield for the newbie entrepreneur whose business suddenly takes off and they find themselves needing to employ staff to help with the ebbs and flows of business.   So many things crop up with the employment of others, which in our normal everyday family life doesn’t cause us any concern.  However, these matters have to be addressed.  Take bank holidays for example.   They are often assumed to be an absoslute right by employees but in fact do not have to be treated as that by the employer, and can be included in their statutory annual leave, which for full time workers in the UK now stands at 5.6 weeks paid leave per year.   This statutory leave covers all sorts of workers that a businessman might be involved with from agency workers, to those with irregular hours that vary within any given pay period, or part time workers – the holiday entitlement for them is worked out on as pro rata basis.  Then there are the less often areas that still need someone to have knowledge about, such designated leave periods for maternity & paternity; adoption; perhaps bereavement . . . .  These are matters that do crop up when you employ staff and it can cause a headache and sometimes conflict with previously much liked and trusted work colleagues.  Definitely the sort of areas for which a business advisor would be recommended.  The fees might seem an unnecessary outgoing, but their assistance in times of doubt will be worth every penny!
